The Edict: To be a part of this league a GM must now do this:
1. As always, always be on time with requests I make, especially the
Spring Draft. If you’re late with a pick then the next
highest ranked player is put into your roster regardless of positional
needs. We will work with TSN’s, or
someone else’s list. If you miss two
picks in a row you’re turfed. Send in a
long list if you know you will be away for some time.
The Orioles send CC Sabathia and 4th round pick to Indians for Prince Fielder and CJ Wilson.
Cardinals send Dan Hudson and 3rd pick to Metros for Miguel Montero and 9th pick.
Colts send Carlos Gonzalez, 3rd pick, 9th pick to Metros for Yovani Gallardo, Scott Baker, 2nd pick.
Indians send CC Sabathia and Geovany Soto to Angels for Hanley Ramirez and Austin Jackson.
A’s send Wandy Rodriguez to Monte White Sox for Neil Walker.
Metros
send Justin Smoak and Ben Zobrist to Monte White Sox for Juan Pierre and Mike
Trout.
Metros
send Jordan
Zimmermann, Travis Wood, Freeman, Tabata to A’s for Kemp, Greinke, Andrew
Bailey
Metros trade Andrew Bailey and 11rd pick to A’s for their 8th and 9th round picks. Appeal period end Friday 10:30pm.

and if you would like to see your team play then just email me a lineup.
With 4 divisions we now can run true
playoffs, but always remember the true champion, the only team worthy of the
Elvis Cup, is the regular season top team.
To spice up the playoffs I offered a $100 prize to the playoff
champion. Some teams balked at the
idea, so here’s the latest idea. If you
don’t want to play for the money then you don’t have to. If you want to play for the money then
consider forwarding $5 to me, although it’s not mandatory that you pay. If you don’t pay and then win the playoffs,
well, you still get the $100 unless you indicated you don’t want to play for
cash prizes. You can PayPal me at gsovan@yahoo.ca or just give me cash next
time you see me if you’re in town.
Only the division winners make the
playoffs. There is no wild card. The AL plays the NL in the BB3000CS, a best
of 9 following the best of 9 LCS’s.
Last year I introduced a simple
spreadsheet baseball game that I would like to take to the next level, which
will actually play a 9-inning game. The
random numbers will be published ahead of time and then the starting random
number in the list will be determined by the Saturday, October, Lotto 649
lottery in Canada using the first 4 digits of the Ontario Encore. Later on that.
The game itself will require you to
establish a batting order with DH and 8 fielders, one for each defensive
position. Whether the batter can play
will be determined by a random number before the game starts. For example, if a player played in 81 games
during the year then he has a 50% chance of playing.
I have asked you this before and you
said it is under consideration. I again
implore you to look into the following setup.
You currently have Max GP for each position which allows the league to
have more than one slot for a position, but once the Max is reached, let's say 162,
the players at that position will no longer accumulate stats? I assume I am correct on this assumption.
What about one more column that will
allow the league to restrict players to Max PA (plate appearances). This way you can have situations like last
year's Cubs 2nd basae tandem of Theriot and Dewitt in the lineup at the same
time without eating up games as both of them often played in the same game but
only went to the plate a combined 3 or 4 times. PA's should be set up as AB + W + HBP + SF and maybe exclude SH.
This would also allow a true platoon
situation for 2 players from different teams, a Lefty and Righty hitter who may
combine for 200 games but only 600 pa's.
This would allow you start that
great pinch hitter who only eats up one pa instead of one full game with their
at bat.
This would allow gamers like me from
having to stop guessing or checking an hour before game time whether the MLB
manager is starting slick fielding SS, or will he again be coming in late in
the game as a defensive sub.
Just like your Max GP, the Max PA
should be left to the discretion of the league commish to set. I would set my league's to 700 for each
position.
While on the soapbox here, there
should be one more offensive team max set up, that being outs. If team outs are set to whatever value the
Commish wants, then poor hitting teams will stop collecting points after their
season outs have been reached. An out
would be computed as follows: AB - H +
GDP + CS. I would set the league's outs to about 4162 (162 x 26). Unfortunately Fantrax computes the stats as
either AB – H or AB – H + SF + SH.
Later that day … Upon further review
is we set outs to 27 a game x 162 games that’s 4374 outs for the season. If we set PA’s at 737 per position with an
OBA of .340 (2010 BB3000 league average) that’s 4378 outs. Teams around the average would accumulate
stats up to the day of the season. Our
worst hitting team with a .325 OBA would have run out of outs with about 5 days
left in the season. Our best hitting
team at .356 OBA would have 4271 outs, about 100 short.
You want every team to get their
full season’s complement of outs.
Rickie Weeks led the league with 754 pa’s last year. You also want every player to get their
full complement too, and at the position they played. Weeks would have to be moved to DH to get his last 17 PA’s, which
could actually hurt the team. What if
we bumped each position to 754 pa’s max?
The best hitting teams last year would have accumulated 4370 outs for
the season, which are only 4 short. I
think we’re on to something. However, I
don’t they could have found the same quality bats for the extra PA’s needed to
get to 754 for each position. So, if
the team’s OBA slipped to .350 then they would accumulate 4411 outs, meaning
they would be 33 outs over. They would
not be accumulating offensive stats on the last day of the season, which could
be a real downer in a tight pennant race.
We have to try to have all teams
accumulating stats right up to the last day, so we have to create either a PA
max small enough, or an OUTS cap big enough to accommodate this. In the above scenario the .350 OBA team ran
out of outs on the 2nd last day of the season. The .320 OBA team would accumulate 4614
outs, 240 over the max, about 9 days before the end of the season. If this .320 OBA had a great pitching staff,
they would have to sit and watch over the last 8 days … to be continued ….
A more advance chart could be utilized,
but maybe we can keep it simple as above.
On outs, if the 2nd digit
is:
1 is a groundout to pitcher.
2 is a pop out to 3rd
digit position number (the pitcher’s popout is a very soft lineout).
3 is a groundout to first base.
4 is a groundout to second base.
5 is a groundout to third base.
6 is a groundout to shortstop,
runner forced at 2nd, all others advance.
7 is a flyout to LF.
8 is a flyout to CF.
9 is a flyout to RF.
0 is possible error.
On groundouts to the pitcher, if the
3rd digit is:
1-3 – all runners advance
4-6 – all runners hold, lead runner
out if fielder’s choice
7-8 – fielder’s choice at 2nd,
all other runners advance (if bases full, choice at plate)
9-0 – ground double play, lead base
where choice exists, to first.
On groundouts to the first baseman,
if the 3rd digit is:
1-4 – all runners advance
5-7 – all runners advance except
fielder’s choice at 2nd
--8 – fielder’s choice at 2nd,
all other runners advance (if bases full, choice at plate)
9-0 – ground double play, lead base
where choice exists, to first.
On groundouts to the second baseman,
if the 3rd digit is:
1-2 – all runners advance
3-6 – fielder’s choice at 2nd,
all other runners advance
7-0 – ground double play, 2nd
to 1st.
On groundouts to the third baseman,
if the 3rd digit is:
1-3 – all runners advance
4-6 – fielder’s choice at 2nd,
all other runners advance (if just runner on 2nd, he holds)
--7 – fielder’s choice at 2nd,
all other runners advance (if bases full, choice at plate)
8-0 – ground double play, 2nd
to 1st.
On groundouts to the shortstop, if
the 3rd digit is:
1-2 – all runners advance
3-5 – fielder’s choice at 2nd,
all other runners advance (if just runner on 2nd, he holds)
6-0 – ground double play, 2nd
to 1st.
On possible errors, if the 3rd
digit is:
1 – it’s a one base error, batter
safe at first, runners advance 1 base
2 – it’s a two base error, batter
safe at first, runners advance 2 bases
3- batter safe at 2nd,
runners advance 2 bases (with two outs all runners score, batter stays at 2nd)
Defence
Downside
Pennington got 100 more balls in
zone (BIZ) in same innings as Jeter. If
both RZR’s are .800 then Pennington gets to 80 more balls, and at 2 points per
ball that’s 160 points. Actually Pennington’s
RZR .817 to Jeter’s .778 which gives him 93 more plays, or 186 points.
Voting Issues
You must keep produce at least 4
games a week in all 8 fielding positions and your DH slot. The week runs Thursday to Wednesday this
year. The only week that you do not
have to fill this requirement is the week of the All-Star game.
The intent of the league is to
maintain a playing roster for the whole season, just like a major league team
has to. While this one is tough to
police by others, it is up to you to police yourself and keep with the spirit
of baseball. Don’t be like last year’s
Colts and cheat the system. The Colts
played the last month of the year without anyone in the CF slot.
Now, this can still be policed and
if you are caught not filling this requirement twice during the season you are
ineligible for any post-season awards.
To remain a member in
good standing you must vote by next Saturday 4pm EDT with one of the following
options.
1. I like it, and 4
games a week is good.
2. I like it but prefer
a different number than 4.
3. I don't like it.
